Paper dolls (紙人), Daoism (道教), Taiwan.

In Daoism, some time if you feel no good, or do things not very smooth, you can go to the Daoist temples request Taoist priest to help you to transfer it. The paper dolls is yours substitute, and will take away your bad feel after Taoist practices. In south Taiwan easy to see paper dolls on religious celebrations than North Taiwan. In north Taiwan, you have to go Daoist temples. If you believe, you can try it in Taiwan. :)

在道教, 有時當您感覺不好, 或做事不順時, 您可以去道教寺廟請求道士幫您轉掉它. 這紙人便是您的替身, 會幫您帶走不好的經由道士作法之後. 在南台灣容易見到紙人於宗教祭典相較於北台灣. 北台灣通常要到道教寺廟去. 如果您相信的話, 您可以嘗試一下在台灣. 

Family work (家庭代工, OEM).Taiwan.

Family work. (OEM) In early years of Taiwan, around 1960~80, it's a good part time job to earn extra money, escpeially in Military dependents, small village, in poor economy. Not easy to see in Taiwan now. It used to be Taiwanese common memories. :)

家庭代工(OEM). 在早些年的台灣, 約1960~80間, 這是一個好的賺額外錢的兼差工作, 特別在眷村, 小村莊, 經濟不佳時. 現在不容易在台灣看到了. 它曾經是台灣人共有的回憶.

Dulan mountain (都蘭山), Taitung (台東).

Face to Dulan mountain, I always revel in her style. She is Taiwan aboriginal Puyuma, and Amis holy mountain. Some old Japanese also called she "Taitung Fuji" as she look like Fuji mountain Japan. Don't forget take a photo with her. :)

Chuí zǐ liáo(槌子寮), Puli (埔里), Nantou (南投).

Chuí zǐ liáo(槌子寮), Puli (埔里), Nantou (南投). Top 5 taking Sunrise place Taiwan. To come here best have local people to bring you, because easy stray, especially when in fogging. (But fogging time will see the best view) It's between SunMoonLake (日月潭) & Puli, so if you interest, you can get up early than to here. A little extra tour of SunMoonLake or Puli.

槌子寮, 埔里, 南投. 台灣拍日出前五名的地方. 來這最好有當地人帶, 因為容易迷路, 特別在起霧時.(但起霧時看的景最美) 它介於日月潭和埔里之間, 所以如您感興趣, 可起個大早來這. 一個日月潭或埔里額外的小旅行.

Sugar draw. A traditional arts common see in early Taiwan, not easy to see right now. Some old street area, old village maybe. It used syrup that painting in the micro-hot copper. Some master can draw very detail planting like Dragon and Phoenix. But most are Simplely cartoon figures. It's old taiwanese memory. (My childhood memories too)

畫糖. 一傳統技藝常見於早期的台灣. 現在並不多見. 在某些老街, 老村莊, 也許可見. 它是用糖漿在微熱的銅板上作畫. 某些師傅能畫出非常細緻的畫作如龍和鳳. 多數是簡單的卡通人物. 這是老台灣人的記憶. (也是我兒時記憶)

Tǔ gōu(土溝) art gallery, Tainan

A new art gallery opened in Tǔ gōu(土溝), Tainan county. It's really special because the whole village are art gallery area. Rice filed, street, living place, etc...all you can find some art work. It worth to spend half day or one day here. To look at art work, to walk though old village, or talk to local people, etc... Enjoy the rural life. :)

一個新的美術館開幕了在台南土溝. 它真的特別因為整個村莊都是美術館. 農地, 街道, 住家等...您都可以找到藝術品. 在這很值得花上半天或一天的時間. 欣賞藝術品, 漫步老村莊, 和當地人聊聊...享受農村生活. 

Thanksgiving drama (酬神戲)

Thanksgiving drama. Sometime if you passing by temples of Taiwan, you'll see. The biggest temple you will see more drama. In early Taiwan, no movie age, Thanksgiving drama are Puppet shows (布袋戲), Taiwanese opera (歌仔戲). Sometime they will race together in order to win more bounty. (Audience happy to see.) If you want to enjoy traditional arts, suggest you can visit temples, maybe you are lucky to see. But please remember if you see no people stay in front of drama, especially in lunar calendar of July (Ghost month), sometime the performance is for ghost. Not Thanksgiving drama.

酬神戲. 有時當您經過台灣的寺廟您會見到. 愈大的寺廟可見愈多酬神戲. 在早期台灣, 沒有電影的時代, 酬神戲多是布袋戲, 歌仔戲. 有時他們會相互競賽贏取更多賞金. (觀眾樂於見到的) 如您想要欣賞傳統藝術, 建議您可以拜訪一些廟宇, 也許您幸運可見到. 但請記得如您看見沒人站在台下, 特別是在農曆七月(鬼月). 有時是表演給好兄弟看的, 非酬神戲.

Moon light inn (月光小棧), Dulan (都蘭), Taitung (台東).

A special event on the Moon light inn, Dulan, Taitung. The moon light inn not a homestay, or B&B. It's a special spot, with gallery & cafe shop. Sometime at saturday noon time have the Performance, maybe music, dance, etc... If you lucky, no, need to say right on time, you will have a wonderful night here. :)

一個特別的節目在台東都蘭月光小棧. 月光小棧並不是民宿, 她是一個特別的地方, 有著藝廊和咖啡小舖. 有時在星期六昏晚會安排表演, 也許是音樂, 舞蹈, 等等... 如您夠幸運, 不, 該說剛剛好, 您會有一個美好的夜晚在這. 

Báishā(白砂), Kěndīng district (墾丁), Pingtung (屏東).

Báishā(白砂), a quite place and a little far away of Kěndīng(墾丁) district. If you like quite and no one disturb, guess you'll love here. :)

3years around Boat burning (三年一度燒王船), Pingtung (屏東).

The final of boat burning. It's a long time to wait to see this view, almost 16hr more. But you never join, you never know. So, if you have no energy, you can skip some schdeule.

The last day best to see;
A. Boat come out from the shop.
B. Boat around the border.
C. Boat burning.

B to C can have 6~8hr to rest, you can go back to homestay sleep awaile than around 2am to wake up and go to see boat burning.

I guess I will join the next three year boat burning again. :)

燒王船的最後. 等這個景花了很長的時間, 幾乎16小時. 但未曾參加過, 就不知道. 所以, 如果您沒那個體力, 可以跳過一些行程.

B到C可以有六到八小時時間休息, 您可以先回民宿小睡一會約兩點在前往欣賞燒王船.

我想我還是會參加下一次的燒王船. 

Wǔgōushuǐ (五溝水), Wànluán (萬巒), Pingtung (屏東).

Wǔ gōu shuǐ (五溝水), Wàn luán township, Pingtung county. It's a old Hakka village, tiny and nice to walk to see old houses. If you plan go to Wàn luán(萬巒) to eat pork knuckle, you can extend your trip to here. More extend, this time in Wàn jīn (萬金) have the Christmas light decoration, the night view so great. So, can be a day trip here. No matter where to start. :)

There's a photographic exhibition of old photos right on DongHe bridge, Taitung. This is 2nd. A year ago, almost the same time it held on. This time more introduce about 1940 ~70 fafukod tribe's life. Welcome. :)

Flower sea in Qiáotóu (橋頭花海), Kaohsiung (高雄).

Flower sea in Qiáotóu (橋頭), Kaohsiung. You have to go more insde than you'll find the treasure. Best looking should be at Dec. first. If you have no idea about your Kaohsiung trip in recent, for your information.

Bird seeing (賞鳥) in Běimén (北門), Tainan (台南).

Bird seeing in Běimén, Tainan. In this time you can see over tens of thousands Terns in early morning and the noon time. The best time aroud 4pm to 5pm, good weather day you can enjoy sunset also. A winter nice view of Tainan.

Xǔ cuò port (許厝港), Dàyuán township (大園鄉), Taoyuan county (桃園).

One of bird seeing in Taoyuan county; Xǔ cuò port, in Dàyuán township. This is not good tour spot without transport, but, if you want enjoy sunset with leisure, here could be good to you. Wind turbines can see here too. :)

桃園縣賞鳥的地方之一; 大園鄉的許厝港. 沒有代步工具的話這邊不是個好旅點, 但如您想要清閒的欣賞夕陽, 這邊可能會適合您. 從這裡也可以看到大風車(風力發電機). 

Cosmos (波斯菊), Jungli (中壢), Taoyuan county (桃園).

Saw cosmos in my hometown, Jungli, Taoyuan county. Cosmos be popular in Taiwan just about 7 years. In the past, when rice harvested in Autumn time, farmer they don't grow any flowers, until during the new year. Most they will grow Rape (油菜花). Until flower sea be popular in Taiwan, the more and more village they started growing Cosmos, from that time, you can see cosmos in everythere Taiwan, especially from these time to Chinese New Year. But now, things a little changed, farmers they grow Rape, Sun Flower, and Sun Hemp too. You know, be different. :)

看見波斯菊在我的家鄉桃園縣中壢市. 波斯菊受到歡迎在台灣約七年的時間. 在過去, 農人們於秋季將稻子收割後, 是不種花的, 直到快至新曆年. 多數也只種油菜花. 直到花海在台灣受歡迎, 愈來愈多的村莊開始種波斯菊. 自那時起, 您可見到波斯菊於台灣各地, 尤其是這段時間到農曆新年. 但現在, 又有些改變了, 農人們也種起了油菜花, 太陽花, 太陽麻. 您知道的, 就是要和別人不一樣. 

Taiwan's local soda

Long long time never to see this cargo car. It's a local Taiwan soda, almost 50 years old. It's Vitamin and soda mix drink, a liitle sweet and color due to vitamin look like gold. If you like drink soda, you find, and you can try it. :)

Bì hú(碧湖), Nantou (南投).

Bì hú(碧湖), if you going to ChinJin(清境) farm from WuShe(霧社), you might see on the road. "碧" in chinese meant "deep green", the lake color look like deep green, so was named. Bi hu also a reservoir, called Wanda(萬大) Reservoir. Slow down, if you passing here, sometime have really nice landscpace, waiting you catch.

碧湖, 如您從霧社前往清境, 您也許會在路上看到. "碧"中文的意思是深綠, 因為湖水看來是深綠的, 由此得名. 碧湖也是個水庫, 稱萬大水庫. 如您經過這, 請慢一點, 有時會有很美麗的風景, 等著您捕捉.

Sun Hemp (太陽麻), Highway1 (台1線), Tainan (台南).

Sun Hemp, before the flower sea come out, you can see in South & East Taiwan. Especially in Tainan county. Fully opened in the rice field. Go on highway 1, you can find more. :)

Water caltrop (菱角,Water chestnut), Guantian (官田), Tainan (台南).

Water caltrop (Water chestnut) field in Guantian (官田), Tainan. It's on season right now, if you want to buy more and cheaper you can come here. There are several way to cook it, the common way are boiled and steamed. But steamed better than boiled. Because you can eat it completely. You can make a garlic soy sauce for dip. Tasted more delicious. Other way like fired, making soup, all you can enjoy it. :)

台南官田的菱角田. 菱角現在是產季, 如您想買便宜又量多可以來這. 菱角有好幾種烹煮法. 最常的方法是水煮和蒸煮. 但蒸煮比水煮好, 因為可以吃到完整的. 您可以弄個大蒜醬油拿來沾, 品嘗起來更是美味. 其他如炸, 或煮湯, 您都可以享受它.

Churchs of Taiwan, some are small, simple, and ancient. Nice to take photos no matter you have religion or not. But please remember respect. The rule, the open time, etc... This photo taken in Fuli, Hualien.

Camellia seed (苦茶籽)

Camellia seed. For old Taiwanese it's a treasure. It can make oil, cleaning supplies, etc...very useful. It were quiet for some time, almost 40years, and now return to popular a little by little. The oil nutrients according to medical reports higher than Olive oil. In some local market, or local specialty center you can find it. Worry about Taiwan's souvenirs what to carry? Camellia oil could be a good choice. :)

苦茶籽. 對老台灣人來說這是一個珍寶. 可以提煉油, 清潔產品相關等...非常好用. 它沉寂了一段時間, 約40年之久. 現在正一點一點的再次受到歡迎. 苦茶油的營養成分根據醫學報導高於橄欖油. 在某些傳統市場, 地方特產中心, 您都可以找到它. 煩惱台灣的手信要帶什麼好? 這可以是一個好選擇.

Roselle you can see in Taitung now. One of Specialty Taitung. :)

Yehliu (野柳), New Taipei city (新北市).

Yehliu, New Taipei city. Very and very famous tourist spot of North Taiwan. Tourists who first time to Taipei most went there. One of taiwan's landmark. Best time to come here after 2 or 3pm, and enjoy sea food here at noon or night. Fresh sea food here. :)

Cloud sea of Ali mountain, Autumn and winter time is the best time to enjoy. In fact, not only Ali mountain can see, if you go any centeral mountain range high mountain, you can see cloud sea too. Welcome to Taiwan centeral mountain range to enjoy. :)

Taitung railway art village, in Taitung city. I won't say it's an art village, almost like a park. With some art decorations. This place is one of Taitung nice shot. I think. Whenever you go there, something will catch your eyes. :)

Three years around Tungkang boat-burning ceremony, just this year, and will held on from 10/14 to 10/21. This is special religious ceremonies of Taiwan, worth to join and look. The boat all made by wood and use Traditional methods, and will burning at 10/21, A spectacular view. Than will starting again build a new boat for next three year around. So, if you miss, you have to wait three years, if you're in Taiwan in this time, why not to keep the chance? ;)

Highway 20 (台20線), Southen corss-island Highway (南部橫貫公路), Taitung sec. (台東段)

Highway 20, Southern Cross-Island Highway, Taitung sec. The place similar Taroko Gorge (太魯閣峽谷), but few people go there. Even I take customers do Taitung tour a lot, to this place less and less. Beside the costomers they have 4D3N trip and all stay in Taitung. Then willl add into the trip. Autumn time to next spring time, the best time to visit here. You can enjoy maple leaf, Plum flower, Cherry, and Peach blossom. Hot spring also. Some very cold day can enjoy snow too. If you feel Taroko Gorge too crowd, you can come here.:)

台20線, 南橫公路, 台東段. 這裡和太魯閣峽谷相似, 但很少人來. 即使我帶客人台東行很多回, 來這少之又少. 除非客人有4D3N的行程,且都待在台東. 這邊才會加入行程中. 秋天到隔年春天是來這最好的時間. 您可以賞紅葉, 梅花, 櫻花, 和桃花. 溫泉也有. 在非常冷的天也有雪好賞. 如果您覺得太魯閣峽谷太擠, 您可以來這.

Cǎoshān Moon World (草山月世界), Tainan & Kaohsiung county.

Cǎoshān Moon World, Between Tainan & Kaohsiung county, a super bad land. Want to see the whole view better to 308 highland, lóngqí (龍崎), Tainan. You can come here enjoy the sunset, and stay over night.

草山月世界, 位於台南和高雄縣的交界, 一超級惡地地形. 想一覽全景最好上台南龍崎的308高地. 您可以來這享受日落並且過一晚.

Highway 7 (台7線), Northern Cross-Island Highway (北部橫貫公路), Taiwan.

Highway 7, Northern Cross-Island Highway, a highway connect Taoyuan (桃園) and Yilan (宜蘭) county. Not very many people choice this highway to do Cross-Island, because take time and some section road not easy to drive. Most people they're not over to another county, cause both side all can be one day tour. The view also different than both county. Near by Taoyuan county, you can see canyon terrain. and neay by Yilan county, you can see forest and cliff. But if you like mountain, this highway good to you. This highway also can connect toTàipíng mountain (太平山), Wuling Farm (武陵農場), Lishan (梨山), all nice tourist spot of Taiwan.

台7線, 北橫公路, 一條連接桃園到宜蘭縣的公路. 並不是很多人選這一條路走, 因為費時, 有些路段也不容易開. 多數人也不會選擇過縣境, 因為兩邊都可以為一日行. 兩縣的景色也不同. 靠近桃園縣境是賞峽谷地形, 靠近宜蘭縣境是賞森林和峭壁. 但如果您喜歡山, 這公路很適合您. 這公路尚可連接至太平山, 武陵農場, 梨山等...都是台灣很棒的旅點.

Autumn, miscanthus season, you can see everywhere in river side, and mountain. The place to see miscanthus, Westen more than Easten Taiwan. Famous places as Yángmíng mountain (陽明山), Taipei. Ta-an River (大安溪), Taichung. etc...This photo taken in between Guanshan and Chíshàng township.

Meat ball (肉圓), Taiwan.

Meat ball, a common snack in Taiwan. With very many taste and difference. Hot oil immersed and steaming are basic way cooking. The cover, stuffing, and sauce, these three things are very different north Taiwan than south Taiwan. You can taste if you're around Taiwan. May taste the same, but the taste is different.

肉圓. 台灣常見的小吃. 有著非常多的口味和差異性. 熱油浸和蒸煮是兩種基本調理. 外皮, 內餡, 和醬汁, 這三項東西北台灣和南台灣就有很大的不同. 如您是環島您可以嘗嘗看. 也許口感相同但味道就是不同.

Night market steak (夜市牛排). Taiwan.

Night market steak. Or you can say iron plate steak. Or, Taiwan style steak. If you go some big night market Taiwan you will see. Basic with beef, noodles, egg, and a little vage. Some booth provide corn chowder, Salad, cold black tea, and bread also. Not suggest to try it in the night market, because good taste and bad taste are very different. Simple way to see people more or less, but not absolute.

夜市牛排. 或您可說鐵板牛排. 或可說台式牛排. 如您去台灣一些大的夜市您可見到. 基本有牛排, 麵, 蛋, 和一點蔬菜. 有些攤子也會提供玉米濃湯, 沙拉, 紅茶, 和麵包. 並不建議在夜市嚐它, 因為好吃不好吃差很多. 簡單看人多或人少, 但這也不是絕對. 如您曾經嘗過好吃的牛排在台灣任何的夜市, 煩請讓我知道, 感謝. 某天我會去吃, 也許會成為我口袋名單.
